Don’t let a swimming pool accident ruin your summer

Outdoor swimming pools come into their own in the summer. Many parents choose to take their kids to a place with a pool so they can cool off, mess around or learn to swim.

While most families return from the pool having had a great time, some return home having had far less enjoyment after one of the children got injured. Ways that could happen include:

Poorly maintained flooring around the pool area

Many people have ripped their foot open after catching it on a broken tile or some other piece of uneven flooring in the rush to get in the pool, or while heading from the pool to the bar or restrooms. Owners must check their poolside areas regularly and promptly make repairs when needed.

Dangerous pool pumps

Pool pumps can be deadly if you get a body part or your hair trapped in one. People have drowned or suffered even more horrific fates where the pump literally sucks the life out of them. Owners must ensure the pumps are well-maintained and have appropriate covers so that these sorts of things cannot happen.

Bottoming out

Diving headfirst into a pool or bombing in can be great fun, and kids often love to do these things. Yet, if the water is not as deep as they think, then a nasty collision with the bottom of the pool could occur. Pool owners need to ensure clear depth marking and use other signage to make sure everyone can easily see which areas are suitable for jumping or diving in and which are too shallow.

If someone in your family suffers a pool accident, you may have legal options available.
