Have you ever started daydreaming in the car? Maybe you suddenly snapped back to reality as you noticed the cars were slowing down ahead of you or that a light had turned red. Or maybe you drove all the way to your destination and then looked around, realizing you did not remember the drive at all. You were daydreaming the entire time.
Most people have experienced this, and some reports indicate that it is fairly dangerous. It is noted as one of the top driving distractions that drivers face. Someone who is lost in thought is not paying attention to the road around them, so it is more likely that they will make mistakes or cause an accident.
How do you combat this issue?
Daydreaming is a difficult distraction to fight back against. Other distractions are much easier. For instance, texting and driving is a common driving distraction. But it is also relatively easy for someone to just turn their phone off or silence it while they are in the car. There are even apps that you can use that automatically disable your phone. This way, texting and driving is not an issue.
But daydreaming happens with no intent from the driver. They are not trying to think about something other than the drive. Their mind just wanders, potentially because they have an attention disorder or they are simply feeling bored behind the wheel. For many people, driving is a mundane task that they have to do every day, so it is easy to forget how dangerous and difficult it really is.
Have you been injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver? If so, take the time to look into your legal options.
