It’s no secret that speeding is both illegal and dangerous. So why do so many drivers continue to travel above the speed limit?
Do they not know or not care? Here are some of the reasons.
Because other people are doing it
Have you ever been driving at the speed limit and seeing a constant stream of drivers overtaking you? There might come a point where you decide that if they are doing it, you too can. At other times it can be hard to stay within the limit because other drivers are close behind you. You may feel you are holding them up and feel pressured to go faster.
Because they are angry
Most people get angry or at least annoyed occasionally. Some people use their vehicles to release their pent-up anger or annoyance. They push down harder on the pedal and feel some kind of release as they feel themselves being pushed back into their seat.
Others just react in an instant to someone who has upset them. For instance, a driver pulls in front of them a little too close after passing them, and they give chase to demonstrate their annoyance at this.
Because they aren’t watching the speedometer
Drivers do not always pay attention to their speedometer and could creep up over the limit without realizing it. This is especially true if they are focused on something other than driving, such as a conversation.
None of these things make speeding legal. If a speeding driver causes a collision that injures you, be sure you know how to show that their speed may have contributed to the collision and your injuries. Having experienced legal guidance can help.
